NRL News

State of Origin The 2015 State of Origin series kicked off last Wednesday with another nail-biter. Queensland were triumphant, after a Cooper Cronk field goal in the dying minutes. The intricacies of the game have been digested ad nauseam by the press, so rather than repeat them; I thought I’d mention some things I think they missed. First is the…
The brilliance of State of Origin is that it turns the most-mild mannered, balanced thinker into an irrational monster incapable of being unbiased. Even a New Zealander, that has never been to New South Wales, will vehemently promote the Blues’ chances of winning, while another Kiwi that has never stepped foot in Queensland will spill blood (on their keyboard) to…
Bye Rounds The NRL has launched into the first bye round of the season, and has subsequently started its slide into obscurity. Every year is the same story; with the bye rounds stripping the few teams that play of their star talent, the games are lackluster. In the four games, we’ve seen the extremes. A defensive slog-fest between the Tigers…
What does the month you were born say about your chances of making it in the NRL? Ever felt like life conspired against your attempts to become a professional footy player? Maybe you felt like you never quite caught the break you needed when you were growing up? The stars just never aligned for you? Well perhaps you aren’t too…
In an RFS exclusive, we can reveal that members of the NRL Judiciary have been privately discussing the confusion surrounding the recent sentencing of Josh Reynolds for his leg trip on Tariq Sims. After handing down the sentence, the Judiciary had assumed they had cleared the way for Reynolds to be selected for State of Origin. However, the eventual naming…
Women In League Round 10 was Women In League round, which for most league fans meant that their team wore pink socks for their game. Many behind the scenes events and fundraisers happened, and some of the NRL TV shows had special guests to highlight the role of women in the sport, and their personal stories. But, on the field,…
Bulldogs vs Roosters With State of Origin teams on the cusp of being named (if not already leaked), round 10 is as much about the individuals as the team performances. For once, the NRL have scheduled a perfect matchup, with last year’s NSW halves facing up against the pair they succeeded, and who are favorites to take the job back.…

Roosters Confirm Extension

Rooster today confirmed that they have extended the contact of 185 game Shaun Kenny-Dowell. They stated that his form this year and being a terrific man on and off the pitch were factors. The theory that they couldn't afford to lose another double barrelled surname was superfluous. His contract has been extended another two years.
During the Sharks vs Warriors game we all witnessed a brutal rugby league injury. It is not the most severe caught on camera, but it is definitely one for the pause button and iron stomachs. Around the 47th min mark, Hurrell went off on one of his traditional rampages up the middle and bumped off a solid tackle attempt by…
Where’s the whistle? During the Broncos vs Panthers game on Friday night, we were reminded of the continued reluctance of the referees to use the sin bin. After an ugly piece of play, where the ball had been dropped, the referee called off play to award the play the ball to the Broncos. Adam Blair stood up with the ball,…
Broncos v Panthers The table topping Broncos take on the injury ravaged Panthers at home on Friday night. The Broncos are strong favorites in this game, and even the possible return of Soward should still see the Panthers unable to win this one. Boyd returns for the Broncos, pushing Kahu to the wing, offering more attacking options for the Broncos…
Updated as at 3 June 2015. Items in bold are updated from last week. Brisbane Broncos James Gavet (ACL, season) Mitchell Dodds (knee, round 13-14) – Dodds has avoided having another knee reconstruction but his cartilage injury will keep him out for about six weeks. Mitch Garbutt (groin, Round 13) Dale Copley (hamstring, Round 14) - Copley picked up an…
Postponed game In the last round of the NRL we had a game paused for bad weather, and this weekend we saw the men's and women’s Kangaroos v Kiwis test matches postponed as well. Suncorp Stadium looked like a pool on Friday night (much to the delight of many a meme creator), and much of South East Queensland looked similar.…
Australia v New Zealand The rep round kicks off with the biggest game of the weekend in the ANZAC Test. While New Zealand will undoubtedly be disappointed that the game is not being played at Eden Park thanks to Channel 9’s broadcast deal, Suncorp Stadium will not intimidate them at all after they dismantled their arch rivals at the venue…
Force and Milf cover another great round of NRL action. Round 8 - Force and Milf cover all the Anzac weekend footy The Force Rant - Force isn't happy with players leaving the field for a bit of drizzle
Concussion rule Like all new rules in a sport, the concussion rule is currently in the eye of a storm in a teacup. Players who cop a serious head knock, or show visible signs of concussion (normally impaired balance), are taken from the field for a concussion test. If they are concussed, they are unable to return to the field,…

Round 8 NRL Preview

Which will see fantasy favourite Michael Lichaa get 80 minutes. Tim Browne & Sam Kasiano return for the Bulldogs as well.…

The Tackle Count Clock

Members of the rugby league community expressed their disappointment last weekend after learning that there had been another tackle count blunder in one of the round 7 games. With all the controversy over this, a new "Shot Clock" idea has been introduced, hoping the NRL can take a leaf out of the NBA and introduce a clock in order to…
Here are Force and Milf with the Round 7 recap. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2c_6MmcmLw
Game 1: Bulldogs vs Tigers Odds: 1.70 v 2.15 Why Bulldogs: Well they are settling down now, Mbye is now back on the bench with Jmoz coming back, and big boppers, Sam Kasiano and Timmy Browne are back.
